Description
Florida Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a species of edible mushroom that is native to the southeastern United States, particularly in the state of Florida. It belongs to the Pleurotus genus, which includes a number of other popular edible mushroom species such as Pleurotus eryngii (king oyster mushroom) and Pleurotus pulmonarius (phoenix oyster mushroom). Florida Oyster Mushrooms have a delicate, slightly sweet flavor and a velvety, soft texture. They are typically white or off-white in color and have a fan- or oyster-shaped cap that is attached to a stem. These mushrooms are commonly used in a variety of dishes, such as soups, stir-fries, and pasta, and can also be grilled or sautéed. They are high in protein and contain a number of important nutrients, including vitamins B and D, selenium, and potassium.
Fully colonized MEA agar wedge. This is a small specimen taken from an agar plate. The agar wedge is fully colonized with your mushroom culture. A colonized agar wedge is used in expanding the mushroom culture it is colonized with. When you receive your colonized agar wedge you can inoculate a whole agar plate, liquid culture or sterilized mushroom substrate with it, or store it for future use.
