Out-Grows Pink Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit
Why Use a Mushroom Grow Kit
If you are interested in growing mushrooms but do not know where to start, a mushroom grow kit is a great option. A mushroom grow kit allows you to watch and be involved with the mushroom cultivation process without having to go through the trouble of making your own mushroom substrate and inoculating it with a mushroom culture. We have done all the hard work for you.
What are Pink Oyster Mushrooms
Pink Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus djamor) are a delightful mushroom to grow and make a great meal when prepared correctly. Our Pink Oyster Mushroom has a distinctive reddish-pink hue and a light, nutty flavor when cooked. Pink Oysters are a tropical mushroom and grow very well in warm and humid conditions.
What Makes Our Mushroom Grow Kit Better
Our Pink Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit stands out from others on the market for a couple of reasons. First of all, our kits contain a 6.75 lb fully colonized block of supplemented sawdust mushroom substrate. This is almost double the size of most mushroom grow kits on the market today. Secondly, the Pink Oyster Mushroom culture we use was genetically isolated in our lab. Genetic isolation is not Genetic Modification; it differs because with genetic isolation, we are isolating genetics that already exist in the fungi, no genetics are modified in the process. The benefits of this process are that our Pink Oyster Mushroom culture is far superior to others. Our culture has a much faster spawn run time with heavy pinning and fruiting, resulting in a much quicker and larger harvest than any other kits we have tested.
How to Use the Pink Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit
Using our kit is very easy. Once it arrives and you are ready to start, simply remove the perforated cut-out on the front of the box. This can be done easily by opening the top of the box and gently pushing out on the corner of the perforated cut-out. This will get it started, then gently work your way around the perforated cut-out portion with your fingers. Once the cut-out is removed, you can close the top of the box. This is important because we only want light to be exposed to the area we just removed the cut-out from.
Cultivation Process:
With the plastic bag now exposed in the front of the box, using a knife or box cutter, cut an "X" in the plastic from corner to corner of the cut-out area. After cutting the "X" in the bag, use any spray bottle to mist the "X" area twice a day. Four to five sprays are generally enough each time. Avoid overwatering by misting. Place your grow kit in a warm area that is not too dry. You don't want a heater or air conditioner blowing directly on it, and you do not want it in direct sunlight. Within 1-2 weeks from cutting the "X" in the bag and misting twice a day, you should start to see pins forming. Pins are mini baby mushrooms that are just starting to sprout. From this time on, things will move a bit quicker. Mist your growing mushrooms twice a day, and within 1-2 weeks from pinning starting, the mushrooms will be fully developed and ready for harvesting.
How to Harvest Your Mushrooms
Harvesting is a straightforward and easy process. Simply grasp the mushroom clusters as close to the substrate block as possible and twist to break the mushrooms free from the substrate. Once you have removed the mushrooms from the block, use a knife to cut off any sawdust substrate that is still attached to the mushrooms. Rinse well, and they are ready to cook.
How to Get Multiple Harvests
But wait, we are not finished yet! Did you know your mushroom kit can grow mushrooms multiple times? Each time a mushroom substrate grows a harvest of mushrooms, it's called a flush. Because our mushroom kit is so large, there is an ample supply of nutrients to support up to 3 flushes. To prepare for your second flush of mushrooms directly after harvest, remove the substrate block from the cardboard box by opening the top and lifting it out. Place the block with the cut "X" part of the bag facing down in a large bowl or bucket of water. The goal is to soak the "X" part of the block in water for 8 hours. This provides the substrate with enough water to support the second flush. After soaking the block, drain it for 10 minutes and place it back in the box as it was before you removed it.
Keeping the Grow Kit Moist for the Second Harvest
We like to recommend you take a plastic grocery bag and place your kit in it and tie the top shut. This will trap the moisture and keep the block from drying out. Check once a week, and when you see new pins starting to form, remove the kit from the bag and repeat the process of misting twice a day until harvest.
